kingofthisworld: (Playing the piano)
[personal profile] kingofthisworld
[Well, thanks to Midna, Ganondorf now has a piano in his room. And he can be heard playing a rather haunting melody. He doesn't know his communicator is on.]

[Zelda finds it strange to be sitting here, talking to Ganondorf, as though nothing in the past ever actually occurred. She knows that it did. She knows exactly what happened. She knows the position she was in. She knows the position he placed her in. Still, she doesn't quite understand what has possessed her to sit in his company.

Not too long ago Zelda was considering what it would have been like to be born in different times and if perhaps her relationship with Ganondorf would have been different. It's almost like the captain did this intentionally, as though he wanted Zelda to explore those possibilities.

She believes in fate, though, and the idea that Ganondorf may always fall into that villainous footing.]

How... quaint. [She can't seem to think of anything else immediately. It takes her a few moments to continue.] I suppose given your stature that it fits you appropriately. I could not picture you with anything like a... harp, I suppose.

Or an ocarina, for that matter.

[And she would be right. No matter the circumstance, Ganondorf would always crave power and would always do anything to have it. It was the fate the goddesses gave him and he had long ago resigned himself to it.

But for now, they were not enemies. There was no struggle for the throne or a Hyrule to fight over. And it should be enjoyed while it lasted.

He laughs when she mentions him with a harp]
. Indeed. I am not a woman.

[The ocarina. He almost questioned her about it. But decided against it. It was not relevant. Not now anyway.]

[She nearly disagrees. Sheik is not a woman either and Zelda is sure he plays the harp very well. Of course, Ganondorf likely already knows about that and simply isn't bringing it up for a number of good reasons. Or he's just taking it easy and waiting before he really lays into her.

She tips her head to the side, watching him for a moment before giving his room a brief look over. It's as barren as hers was upon her arrival. Of course, her room has changed since then. Will he keep his in such a... lacking style? She's never pictured him having much of that. Style, she means.]

Do you know any other music, aside from the festivities and from that... monstrosity you were playing earlier?

[Actually, Ganondorf knows very little about Sheik. They've never met.

And as for the room, he does intend to redecorate. He would prefer a little more metal as it suits his tastes. It's cold and sterile.

He answers her final question without a word. He does indeed know another song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqkVc2zh_Eg).]

[He's managed to silence her. There are so many questions attached to that song. Zelda remembers it from her childhood. She remembers it as being incredibly sentimental for her. Why does he know it? Why is he allowed to know it?

Her expression contorts and she inclines her head and eyes her hands thoughtfully. It makes her want to return to Hyrule. It makes her miss home. And yet she's stirred by his playing all of the time. Music can be hollow by the player and not by the listener.

Finally she finds the words to speak.]

Where did you hear it? Why do you know that song?

[With the song ended, the room fell silent. She was probably a little disturbed by the fact that he knew that song. He knew that only members of the royal family were allowed to learn it. But after hearing it enough, it did not take him long to learn it.]

The castle. I have lived a long time, my dear, and if you walk the halls of the castle long enough, ghosts of the past will show themselves. They have so many interesting secrets to share.

[She can't decide if she should be aggravated or touched. It's true. Only members of the royal family should know it. He could only be considered 'royal' if they included his ability to shove his way into his position as Hyrule's ruler.]

...Is that so.

[It's not really a question.]

Touching perhaps, however... I have uncertain feelings on how you can play it. And play it well at that.

It's all a matter of practice.

[And he speaks like it is the simplest thing in the world. Nevermind he intentionally eavesdropped to learn the mystical properties the song has. He never learned all of it's secrets, unfortunately. For him at least.]

I like to think there is something more to it than just playing something 'well'. People who do not appreciate music or understand it have no place in playing it. Music should not be empty. Music is...

[She pauses to think about what it is she wants to say.]

Music is more than simply notes inscribed on parchment. It is more than sound coming from strings or through holes. Do you understand what I mean to say?

I do.

[He is silent for a moment before glancing over at Zelda.]

Do you play, Princess? [And he slides over, making room for her.]

[For a moment, she simply stares in surprise.]

...An ocarina, of course...

[Hesitantly she rises to join him, unsure even of what it is she's doing. A hand cautiously rests upon the keys before pressing one down.]

It is not as though I have not seen one before... I would not say I am well-versed.

[He sat silent for a moment before he begins playing the scale slowly and carefully.]

Would you like to learn? It is simple enough.

[What would her father say? If she accepts, does it make Zelda a traitor? She's not in Hyrule. She can't help her people or anyone back there if she's aboard the ship. The Captain doesn't release his people often--if at all.

She's at a stalemate.]

You intend to teach me?

[He chuckles.

Always questioning. That was something that never changed about her no matter what the time period, so it would seem.]

If you wish. Or I'm sure there's someone on board who can teach you, if you would truly like to learn.

[Darn that inquisitive nature of hers...

She stares up at him curiously. Is he retracting his offer? What exactly does he want from her? Besides the obvious, of course, which she will never willingly hand over to him.]

Are you implying you believe I would be a troublesome pupil, and therefore are incapable of handling me?

[She's not sure if she's even serious about that.]

I never said anything of that kind.

[He sounds amused.]

You always jump to conclusions in my regard. I only meant that you seem to have a difficult time trusting me. So you are under no obligation to accept my offer if you wanted to find another teacher in my stead.

[He's got her there. She doesn't like that. Her variety of emotions have made it a little difficult to cope appropriately. Silently she holds the others aboard for this turn of events.]

...Should I be trusting you? No, you may not do anything for as long as we are here, however... I am a bit ridden by anxiety to sit with you this way.

[Never mind that she considered it only days before he arrived.]

By allowing you to teach me, I can keep an eye on you. I accept your invitation, Ganondorf.
