kingofthisworld: (Playing the piano)

[Well, thanks to Midna, Ganondorf now has a piano in his room. And he can be heard playing a rather haunting melody. He doesn't know his communicator is on.]

Do you not remember me...?

[He stares right back into his orange eyes and shifts his weight, standing a little more proudly.]

...it's hard to say if you do, since I don't understand how it's possible for you to be standing in front of me like this... but you are the Gerudo King, right? Who killed the Great Deku tree, and tried to starve the Gorons, and tricked Zelda and I when we were little?

Obviously not.

[Ganondorf did not look amused as Link recounted the tale of their encounter. Yes, he did all of those things, save tricking Link and Zelda to do anything. And aside from that, he was stopped before he could complete his conquest on the castle, and not by this child. So what was he going on about?]

I am not the Ganondorf you are acquainted with. No matter how much you wish it to be so.

No - you are!

[He blinks and shakes his head insistently.]

You're Ganondorf Dragmire, the Gerudo King... you came to Hyrule saying it was to meet the king of Hyrule, but really, you were going around trying to collect that Spiritual Stones. That's when you did it, when you killed the Deku Tree! But then, when I went to open the door of time, you followed me...

[He trails off. Those details are heavy with guilt and hard to articulate. Plus, this line of conversation doesn't seem to be persuading him very much.

Link's so sure of it, that he's got to find out what the disconnect has to be. There's obviously one, but at the same time, he's undoubtedly the same person. He wracks his brain for any other details.]

Um... your second-in-command, her name is Nabooru, although she couldn't stand you. And your caretakers were Koume and Kotake, the witches!

So you knew the traitor.

[He falls silent, when Link mentions a Ganondorf following him through the door of time. That certainly never happened. He never made it that far. Not that he would admit that.]

Y-... You're the traitor! Don't act like you're not! I r-remember you.

[Link doesn't hesitate in his interrogation just because Ganondorf's tone softened out of some kind of understanding. He doesn't fully realize yet that his own childhood, the Hyrule Zelda was trying to send him back to, has its own separate problems now, that disaster hadn't actually been diverted. He doesn't understand how this Ganondorf from the past could be the Evil King, without having earned it the way Link himself was involved.]

How do you think you're different?

Because I clearly am. You seem to think you've defeated me and placed me into some kind of void when that simply has not occurred. I was stopped and sent into the Twilight Realm. And certainly not by the likes of you.

[He's beginning to get annoyed with this. He feels like he's only repeating himself and it's beginning to get on his nerves. He exhales and gives Link a pointed glare.]

If you've got nothing else to say to me, boy. I suggest you be on your way.

[Link takes a step back and bites his lip upon meeting his eyes, not out of fear but out of suspicion that Ganondorf would strike at him at any moment.

Fine. If he's going to be like this, then fine. But Link knows it's him. Maybe he's not the exact same person who morphed into a hideous monster, the person he stabbed in the head and watched the Sages seal away, but he is the person Link remembers fearing as a child. He could never forget his face, and here it is, staring at him with annoyance.]

Fine.

[Finally, acceptance. Agreeing to disagree. He steps backwards into the hallway again.]

Stay away from Zelda. Both of them.
