kingofthisworld: (Playing the piano)
[personal profile] kingofthisworld
[Well, thanks to Midna, Ganondorf now has a piano in his room. And he can be heard playing a rather haunting melody. He doesn't know his communicator is on.]

[He begins to play a lighter tune and he smirks.]

You are welcomed to come and listen, Your Grace. If you are so inclined, of course. Or, if there is something specific you would like to hear, I will gladly play it for you.

[...He's... inviting her to come listen? She supposes she can. Watch him carefully. Don't take any action against him. That's what they've all agreed upon.]

...I can do that.
Where are you staying?

Deck seven. Room six-three-seven-one. [A chuckle] I look forward to seeing you, Princess.

[The goddesses did this, Zelda decides. They're all staying on the same floor, aren't they? Zelda's never been to Midna's room, but she assumes it's more than coincidence. There's no way she's letting Ganondorf have that information.

She doesn't respond, and wordlessly makes her way to his room. He's not that far from her at all. Well, far from her room, anyway. How unnerving. At his door, she pauses. This is awkward. She's just ensuring he's not up to anything, right? Genuine curiosity? Concern? Potential worry?

Zelda knocks, anxious about what awaits on the other side.]

[He has stopped playing altogether as he awaits Zelda's arrival. He's almost skeptical that she will show. Given their previous encounters. Or perhaps she will, if only to 'keep an eye on him', as she had promised.

Her arrival was prompt. And he was surprised. Was she on the same deck as he? Interesting. It would seem the goddesses had destined for them to always be brought together, even if it was not in their own world.

He greets her with a smirk.]

Princess. Welcome.

[There's silence on the other side of that door. Zelda's mind plays tricks on her, considers the number of things he can do, or has the potential to. Dampened magic he may have, just like her, and just like everyone else aboard, but his physical strength should not be underestimated. Ganondorf is not a man to take lightly.

The door opens and there he is, in all of his looming glory. Zelda feels as small next to him as she has since the first time they met. She stares up at him, speechless for a few moments. This is how it feels to look into the eyes of her father's killer? How does she really feel, though? If she's afraid, it doesn't show, but surely she feels an uncertainty.]

Ganondorf.

[It's so strange to talk to him. She inclines her head, out of habit, not out of pure, unadulterated desire.]

You stopped playing?

From: [identity profile] destinedtorule.livejournal.com
[Zelda was wise to not underestimate him. Even then, even when he had nothing to gain, his mind refused to remain idle. Even then, his first thought was how to gain her piece of the triforce.

She had walked so willingly into this. And how quickly he could turn on her. If he had any desire to do so. But, he did not.

Instead, he stepped aside, allowing her access to his room.]

In preparation for your arrival. I had assumed you wanted to hear another song. If not, I can continue with the first song I was playing.

[She's clearly hesitant. She trusts Ganondorf about as far as she can throw him and that is by no means far. He reeks of ill intent. Somewhere. When it happens, she'll be ready for it and she'll be able to say that she knew it would happen all along.

There are things he may not know, however; things that she's aware of and he has yet to realize.]

That was unnecessary. Thoughtful, yet unnecessary.

[Zelda glances around once. If something happens, she's not without those she can call on. Ganondorf's not that foolish, though. She watches him move and shows herself in carefully.]

Is there any particular reason you would play? That song, I mean. Is it a reminder intentionally, or simply something you enjoy?

From: [identity profile] destinedtorule.livejournal.com
[He notes her hesitancy and his ego is, in turn, stroked. He will not deny the fact that she remains so cautious in his presence does not please him to some degree.]

I always play for my own enjoyment. There is no other need.

[It is not always his intent to instill fear in people. Even if that is almost always the end result.]

Please, sit.

[An incredible kindness that she doesn't expect. Kindness that makes her consider every movement carefully. She does, however, to be polite, take his invitation. She sits down upon his couch, remarkably similar to hers, Jak's, Kevas's, everyone else's. Clearly the ship is in need of new furniture.

She rests her hands upon her lap.]

I am interested to know where you learned to play and what other songs you know.

[He is indeed ill-tempered. But he is not ill-mannered. So the Princess needn't worry herself about unnecessary cruelty.]

I learned many things in my youth. It was part of my upbringing as the prince of my people.

[Not many cared to ask about his past. They only knew him for his misdeeds. And to be perfectly honest, it surprised him that she had asked. To the point to where he had almost forgotten her second question all together.]

I know many songs native to my homeland. Festive tunes you might enjoy. [And he begins to play one. It is fast paced and perhaps gives a glimpse into the happy people the Gerudo once were.]

[She has a difficult time picturing Ganondorf as a child. After all, he's always been the rather frightening man of her nightmares. He'd have to have been a kid at one point in time. Even she knows that. She idly wonders what sort of life he had to live with the rest of his people.

When she thinks about it, Zelda's not entirely well-versed with the Gerudo and their culture.]

I see...

[His music is surprisingly uplifting. She can picture his people being festive, however. Nabooru has always struck her as being a bit... outlandish. Or had, anyway.]

I did not think the Gerudo would be so... musically inclined with something like a piano or an organ. I picture them playing string instruments more.

From: [identity profile] destinedtorule.livejournal.com
[He was indeed a child. And a happy child at that. But one could easily understand why Zelda would have a hard time picturing it. Were she to ask, he would most likely divulge a little more of his lost people. Just don't mention their being slaughter. That'll make him angry.]

I chose the piano. It seemed much more sophisticated than the native instruments. I learned to play the organ later on.

[Zelda finds it strange to be sitting here, talking to Ganondorf, as though nothing in the past ever actually occurred. She knows that it did. She knows exactly what happened. She knows the position she was in. She knows the position he placed her in. Still, she doesn't quite understand what has possessed her to sit in his company.

Not too long ago Zelda was considering what it would have been like to be born in different times and if perhaps her relationship with Ganondorf would have been different. It's almost like the captain did this intentionally, as though he wanted Zelda to explore those possibilities.

She believes in fate, though, and the idea that Ganondorf may always fall into that villainous footing.]

How... quaint. [She can't seem to think of anything else immediately. It takes her a few moments to continue.] I suppose given your stature that it fits you appropriately. I could not picture you with anything like a... harp, I suppose.

Or an ocarina, for that matter.

Date: 2009-09-26 02:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] destinedtorule.livejournal.com
[And she would be right. No matter the circumstance, Ganondorf would always crave power and would always do anything to have it. It was the fate the goddesses gave him and he had long ago resigned himself to it.

But for now, they were not enemies. There was no struggle for the throne or a Hyrule to fight over. And it should be enjoyed while it lasted.

He laughs when she mentions him with a harp]
. Indeed. I am not a woman.

[The ocarina. He almost questioned her about it. But decided against it. It was not relevant. Not now anyway.]

From: [identity profile] oblique-wisdom.livejournal.com
[She nearly disagrees. Sheik is not a woman either and Zelda is sure he plays the harp very well. Of course, Ganondorf likely already knows about that and simply isn't bringing it up for a number of good reasons. Or he's just taking it easy and waiting before he really lays into her.

She tips her head to the side, watching him for a moment before giving his room a brief look over. It's as barren as hers was upon her arrival. Of course, her room has changed since then. Will he keep his in such a... lacking style? She's never pictured him having much of that. Style, she means.]

Do you know any other music, aside from the festivities and from that... monstrosity you were playing earlier?

Date: 2009-09-26 03:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] destinedtorule.livejournal.com
[Actually, Ganondorf knows very little about Sheik. They've never met.

And as for the room, he does intend to redecorate. He would prefer a little more metal as it suits his tastes. It's cold and sterile.

He answers her final question without a word. He does indeed know another song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqkVc2zh_Eg).]

From: [identity profile] oblique-wisdom.livejournal.com
[He's managed to silence her. There are so many questions attached to that song. Zelda remembers it from her childhood. She remembers it as being incredibly sentimental for her. Why does he know it? Why is he allowed to know it?

Her expression contorts and she inclines her head and eyes her hands thoughtfully. It makes her want to return to Hyrule. It makes her miss home. And yet she's stirred by his playing all of the time. Music can be hollow by the player and not by the listener.

Finally she finds the words to speak.]

Where did you hear it? Why do you know that song?

From: [identity profile] destinedtorule.livejournal.com
[With the song ended, the room fell silent. She was probably a little disturbed by the fact that he knew that song. He knew that only members of the royal family were allowed to learn it. But after hearing it enough, it did not take him long to learn it.]

The castle. I have lived a long time, my dear, and if you walk the halls of the castle long enough, ghosts of the past will show themselves. They have so many interesting secrets to share.

[She can't decide if she should be aggravated or touched. It's true. Only members of the royal family should know it. He could only be considered 'royal' if they included his ability to shove his way into his position as Hyrule's ruler.]

...Is that so.

[It's not really a question.]

Touching perhaps, however... I have uncertain feelings on how you can play it. And play it well at that.

From: [identity profile] destinedtorule.livejournal.com
It's all a matter of practice.

[And he speaks like it is the simplest thing in the world. Nevermind he intentionally eavesdropped to learn the mystical properties the song has. He never learned all of it's secrets, unfortunately. For him at least.]

I like to think there is something more to it than just playing something 'well'. People who do not appreciate music or understand it have no place in playing it. Music should not be empty. Music is...

[She pauses to think about what it is she wants to say.]

Music is more than simply notes inscribed on parchment. It is more than sound coming from strings or through holes. Do you understand what I mean to say?

Date: 2009-09-26 08:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] destinedtorule.livejournal.com
I do.

[He is silent for a moment before glancing over at Zelda.]

Do you play, Princess? [And he slides over, making room for her.]

[For a moment, she simply stares in surprise.]

...An ocarina, of course...

[Hesitantly she rises to join him, unsure even of what it is she's doing. A hand cautiously rests upon the keys before pressing one down.]

It is not as though I have not seen one before... I would not say I am well-versed.

[He sat silent for a moment before he begins playing the scale slowly and carefully.]

Would you like to learn? It is simple enough.
